Oviir’s team in Estonia developed Lodestellar as a solution to the challenges posed by new legislation and market pressures worldwide. Stricter carbon emission limits for buildings have led to an explosion in EPDs, with approximately 50 being published daily.
The European Commission’s recent framework to standardize building impact calculations further emphasizes the importance of accurate data, making EPDs crucial for supplier selection. However, the rapid growth has also created a significant bottleneck due to limited independent verifiers and high development costs, often exceeding €10,000 with lengthy revision cycles.
