TL;DR

SAP has integrated Berlin-based n8n's software into Joule Studio, its Autonomous Enterprise platform's central agent-building environment. This move doubles n8n's valuation to $5.2 billion and positions the fair-code workflow automation startup as Germany's most valuable AI company.

Jan Oberhauser launched n8n in 2019 as a side project after encountering expensive and closed workflow automation tools at his previous job. Now, SAP has adopted his creation as the orchestration layer for its 200+ specialized AI agents and 50 domain-specific assistants across various sectors.

The Deal: A Gap in the Enterprise AI Stack

The partnership highlights a missing piece in the enterprise AI landscape. While SAP offers powerful AI agents, they struggle to communicate with non-SAP systems. n8n bridges this gap, enabling agents to interact with thousands of external applications, from CRMs to data warehouses.

Key Features of n8n:

  • Visual Workflow Canvas: Users drag, drop, and connect integrations between systems.
  • Over 1,000 Integrations: Supported by technology partners, with a generic HTTP node for calling any API.
  • Data Security: n8n runs on SAP's cloud infrastructure, keeping data within the customer's SAP environment.

The Partnership:

  • Multi-Year Commercial Agreement: n8n becomes a native capability in Joule Studio.
  • Support for Other Tools: Cursor and Claude Code also integrated, but n8n is the primary workflow orchestration layer.
  • General Availability: Planned for Q3 2026.

About n8n:

Founded in Berlin in 2019, n8n operates under a fair-code license, promoting accessibility and community contributions.
