AI Money Watch: Five Funding Rounds That Matter Today
In a bustling 24 hours for AI and deep-tech investments, several notable funding rounds took place, from substantial quantum bets to European startups focusing on voice AI and energy. Here’s a look at the most significant deals:
The Heavyweights Raise Capital
Oratomic Secures $300m Series A:
The quantum computing startup, which launched in March, has secured one of the largest early rounds in the sector. ARCH Venture Partners, Spark Capital, and Khosla Ventures led the investment, aiming to develop fault-tolerant, utility-scale quantum machines using neutral-atom technology.
Prime Intellect Achieves $1bn Valuation with $130m Series A:
This two-year-old startup has reached a remarkable $1 billion valuation just eight months after launch. Radical Ventures led the round, joined by Nvidia Ventures and Intel Capital. Prime Intellect offers companies the ability to train their own AI agents without relying on OpenAI or Anthropic.
Europe’s Bets
Gradium Secures Seed Funding Beyond $100m:
The Paris-based voice AI startup, a spinout from Kyutai Lab, has added approximately $30 million from new investors, including Nvidia. This takes their seed funding past the $100 million mark. Nvidia’s continued investment highlights its focus on startups building on its hardware.
Axle Energy Raises €21m Series A:
Based in London, Axle Energy focuses on transforming EV chargers, home batteries, and heat pumps into grid-balancing capacity. The round was led by Energize Capital with Accel participating. This investment aligns with the growing trend of utilities and data centers seeking flexible power solutions.
Bizay Raises $55m Series D:
The Lisbon-based marketplace for custom-printed products for small businesses has secured funding from Indico. This round will support their US expansion and integration of more AI across the platform.
Why It Matters
The common thread throughout these investments is where investors perceive the next significant advancements to be. Quantum computing and AI agents are attracting substantial checks, while European funds are flowing into seemingly less glamorous areas like voice technology and energy infrastructure. Nvidia’s presence in multiple deals underscores its dominance in these ecosystems.
As valuations continue to soar, the true test will be which startups can convert their funding into tangible revenue and which ones simply buy time.
