AirTrunk Acquires Lumina CloudInfra to Enter India with 600MW of Planned Capacity

The deal is an internal Blackstone consolidation, with both AirTrunk (acquired for A$24 billion in 2024) and Lumina CloudInfra (launched by Blackstone in 2022) within the same portfolio. By integrating Lumina into AirTrunk, Blackstone provides its Asia-Pacific data center platform with a direct entry into India’s hyperscale market without a third-party acquisition. Terms were not disclosed.
AirTrunk, the Asia-Pacific data center operator owned by Blackstone, is acquiring Lumina CloudInfra, an India-focused data center developer, marking AirTrunk’s debut in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital infrastructure markets. The acquisition grants AirTrunk access to Lumina’s development pipeline, customer contracts, relationships, and operational capabilities, encompassing approximately 600 megawatts of planned capacity across India’s major cities, representing up to $5 billion of development potential. Financial details remained confidential.
This transaction has an interesting structure: both companies are Blackstone entities. Lumina CloudInfra was established by Blackstone in 2022 as a dedicated India-focused hyperscale data center platform, backed by substantial capital and led by local industry veterans.
AirTrunk, Asia-Pacific’s largest independent data center operator, was acquired by Blackstone in December 2024 for A$24 billion, Blackstone’s largest ever deal in the region. Instead of introducing an external acquirer, Blackstone is merging its two data center platforms under a single operating entity, providing AirTrunk with an immediate entry point into India with existing land positions, customer relationships, and a management team with extensive local market expertise.
Post-acquisition, AirTrunk will operate across six markets: Australia, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and India, with a combined portfolio exceeding 3 gigawatts of operating and planned capacity across 20 campuses.
Lumina’s planned 600MW pipeline spans India’s Tier-1 cities, starting with Mumbai and Chennai, followed by Pune, Delhi/NCR, and Hyderabad.
Sujeet Deshpande, Lumina’s co-founder and CEO, and former head of Colt Data Center Services’ India operations, previously leading Reliance Jio Infocomm’s integrated data centers, described the deal as a fusion of “local strength with global platforms.”
Robin Khuda, AirTrunk’s founder and CEO, characterized India as “one of the largest and fastest-growing markets for hyperscale and AI infrastructure globally,” and stated that the acquisition positions AirTrunk to “deliver the scale, speed, and performance our customers require as they expand across the APAC region.”
Peng Wei Tan, Senior Managing Director of Real Estate at Blackstone, highlighted the deal as reinforcing “one of Blackstone’s highest conviction themes, digital infrastructure,” and noted that as the world’s largest data center investor, Blackstone is well-positioned to meet rising demand across Asia-Pacific’s fastest-growing economies.
