Amazon Adds Mandiant Founder Kevin Mandia to Its Board
Amazon has elected Kevin Mandia, the founder of Mandiant and CEO of AI security startup Armadin, to its board of directors. He joins the board’s Audit and Security committees and receives 4,086 restricted stock units. The seat becomes vacant following the departure of former NSA director Keith Alexander in May.
“If there is a way in, the modern AI threat will find it,” Mandia wrote in a blog post that launched Armadin in March. Six months later, Amazon announced his board appointment on 9 September.
The company described Mandia as a “widely recognized cybersecurity expert” with over 30 years of experience. A securities filing made the same day confirms his roles on the Audit and Security Committees.
Career Highlights
Mandia founded Mandiant in 2004, which investigated corporate data breaches, ultimately being acquired by Google for $5.4bn in 2022. His career began in the military, serving as a computer security officer at the Pentagon while in the US Air Force. He later worked as a special agent in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and held various positions on cybersecurity advisory committees.
Recent Endeavors
Mandia is now CEO of Armadin, an AI-driven cybersecurity startup founded in 2025, which raised $189.9m in seed and Series A funding in March. Armadin uses AI to simulate attacks against corporate networks, helping companies test their defenses. Mandia co-founded Ballistic Ventures, a cybersecurity venture capital firm, where he serves as a general partner and mentors the next generation of cybersecurity entrepreneurs.
