Amazon in Talks to Acquire Decart for Approximately $7 Billion, Reports WSJ
Amazon is reportedly in negotiations to buy AI startup Decart for a substantial sum, according to The Wall Street Journal. The deal, which could value Decart at around $7 billion, is said to be in advanced stages, with a possible closing soon if talks don't falter and no other buyer emerges.
Decart's Offerings
Decart, a 2023 founding, has developed a software layer called DOS, which makes it easier for developers to work with various AI chips. They also build their own models, including:
- Lucy: Modifies live video as it plays.
- Oasis: Creates interactive worlds for robots and other physical AI.
Amazon's Connection
Amazon Web Services (AWS) provided Decart with early access to its Trainium chip in 2024, after meeting with the startup's founders. Decart's video model ran live on Trainium3 at AWS re:Invent in December 2025. Amazon highlighted Decart's achievements in a launch post for Trainium3 that week.
Previous Suitors and Valuations
In May, Decart secured $300 million in funding led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia joining as an investor. This round valued the company at nearly $4 billion.
Earlier, Anthropic was in talks to acquire Decart for approximately $6 billion in shares in August, but ultimately walked away after due diligence.
Decart has raised over $400 million from investors, including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, and Radical Ventures. A deal at the reported price would mark a significant exit for Israel's tech industry.
A Growing Trend
Amazon's potential acquisition is part of a broader trend among cloud companies to reduce reliance on Nvidia. Microsoft recently announced its Maia 300 chip will power its AI services from 2027. Additionally, Nvidia is in talks to either acquire or invest more in Reflection AI, according to the Financial Times.
