AMD’s chief says demand is outrunning supply, and that AI should police itself

AMD’s Chief: AI Should Police Itself as Demand Outruns Supply

Lisa Su, AMD's CEO, told reporters in Taipei that AMD is significantly increasing its chip supply in 2027, with even greater capacity possible. She attributed the current high demand, which she expects to persist for years, to the bustling global chip landscape and visited supply chain partners including TSMC to underscore this point.

Su emphasized the positive impact of AI on society, calling it "incredibly good for the world," and dismissed concerns raised by others about potential harm. Instead of strict regulations, she advocated for cooperation within the AI ecosystem, highlighting the importance of "working together as an ecosystem". She specifically cited the Trump administration's Super Intelligence Force as a positive step in this direction.

While Europe has taken a more regulatory approach, implementing measures like model inspections and market access restrictions, Su noted that AMD's focus is on collaborative solutions. She also reaffirmed a previous pledge to invest more than $10 billion in Taiwan, emphasizing the island's critical role in the global semiconductor supply chain.
