Anthropic (find out more) CEO Dario Amodei earned $18M last year as the head of Anthropic, the AI model creator, according to the company’s IPO prospectus, mostly in the form of stock and options rather than salary. Reuters reported the figure after reviewing the filing, which is not yet publicly available.
Most notably, Amodei and his sister Daniela Amodei, Anthropic’s president, each had their annual salary doubled to $1.4M in July. Daniela Amodei received a total of $16.4M for 2025.
The board of Anthropic has also committed to providing them with more shares this year through restricted stock units, some contingent on continued employment and others tied to the IPO.
Krishna Rao’s salary for 2025 was reported as $720,250. Rao, who joined in 2024 and received options for 1.4 million shares, exercised options valued at $385,285 the previous year. Anthropic declined to comment on the figures when contacted by Reuters.
Anthropic is poised for a potential $2 trillion valuation in its upcoming IPO as early as this autumn, based on confidential filing submitted in June.
While Amodei’s salary aligns with those of top executives at major tech companies, Oracle’s co-CEO Clayton Magouyrk earned $627.5 million in 2025. Comparatively, Alphabet's Sundar Pichai made $10.9 million (with most being for personal security) and Amazon's Andy Jassy made $2.1 million.
These figures don't reflect the full wealth held by founders and executives in the form of stock ownership. Using a SEC measure that includes changes in unvested stock value, Pichai received $213.9 million and Jassy $13.2 million.
"Founders rarely need large annual pay," said Courtney Yu, director of research at pay data firm Equilar. “They can just live off the wealth of the equity they already own.”
The prospectus omits the founders' ownership percentages but notes that Amodei and Anthropic's other six co-founders have pledged to donate 80% of their personal shares in Anthropic to charity.
This week, AI researcher Yann LeCun criticized Amodei as “deluded.”
