CoreWeave Signs Multi-Year Anthropic Deal as Nine of Ten Top AI Model Providers Join Its Platform

Ex-Crypto Miner Becomes AI’s Landlord
CoreWeave, founded in 2017 as Atlantic Crypto, initially focused on Ethereum mining. After shifting to GPU-on-demand cloud services in 2019, the company leveraged its existing Nvidia hardware stockpile to capitalize on the AI model training boom.
The company went public on Nasdaq under the ticker CRWV on March 28, 2025, raising $1.5 billion and valuing it at approximately $23 billion. With 32 data centers and over 250,000 GPUs, CoreWeave generated $5.13 billion in revenue in 2025, marking a 168% year-over-year increase. Management forecasts over $12 billion in 2026 revenue against a backlog exceeding $66 billion.
Microsoft’s AI Push and CoreWeave’s Diversification
The company’s rapid growth, however, carries a risk of dependence on a single customer, as Microsoft accounted for 67% of CoreWeave’s 2025 revenue. Microsoft’s development of its own AI models adds a strategic variable, prompting questions about the future of third-party GPU cloud rental.
The CoreWeave-Anthropic deal, announced the day after the Meta expansion, aims to diversify CoreWeave’s customer base, reducing its reliance on any single hyperscaler.
What Anthropic is Paying For
Anthropic’s compute strategy has evolved with its revenue, surpassing $30 billion in early April 2026. Driven by enterprise Claude adoption and Claude Code’s breakout growth, Anthropic has expanded its infrastructure commitments across various chip architectures.
Prior to the CoreWeave announcement, Anthropic’s infrastructure relied primarily on AWS Trainium hardware via Project Rainier, a large-scale cluster spanning multiple US data centers.
