Dutch Police Seize 800 Servers Linked to Russian Hackers
The Netherlands’ financial crimes agency raided two data centres and arrested a consultant and a concert pianist who allegedly provided hosting infrastructure to the Kremlin-linked group NoName057(16).
The Details:
- Seized Servers: 800 servers operated by WorkTitans and MIRhosting were taken into custody.
- Targeted Individuals: Youssef Zinad, owner of WorkTitans, and Andrey Nesterenko, founder of MIRhosting, were arrested. Nesterenko, a renowned concert pianist, denied any wrongdoing in a LinkedIn post.
- Sanctions Connection: The servers were linked to entities controlled by sanctioned Moldovan brothers, Iurie and Ivan Neculiti, known for facilitating Russian cyberattacks since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
- NoName057(16) Activities: This pro-Russian hacktivist group has conducted distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on European government websites, banking services, and critical infrastructure since 2022.
Dutch investigators claim that the hosting companies provided infrastructure for these cyberattacks across Europe. The raids highlight the efforts to disrupt and dismantle such operations.
