F13, an AI company specializing in vector graphics generation, has emerged from stealth with a $5M pre-seed round led by Credo Ventures and Point Nine Capital. Angel investors, including Carles Reina of Baobab Ventures and Jack Richardson of Mainframe, also participated.
Images described using vector graphics are composed of shapes and coordinates rather than pixels, ensuring they maintain quality when enlarged and allowing for precise line alterations. This format is commonly used by designers and engineers for charts, diagrams, maps, and brand assets where accurate proportions are paramount.
While popular image models can generate creative visuals, they often struggle to produce charts that align with data or diagrams with the correct proportions. F13 claims its model can achieve these tasks efficiently, accepting text, images, or existing graphics as prompts and delivering output adhering to user design specifications while remaining fully editable.
The company highlights its proprietary technology, enabling the model to better understand 2D space, and asserts that it outperforms general-purpose image and code models developed by major AI labs in their own tests. Early access customers can utilize the API and web app to create and edit shareable designs, including charts, infographics, diagrams, maps, and presentation layouts. A public launch is scheduled for later this year, with a waitlist available on the company’s website.
The funding will be allocated to bring the initial model to market and support additional computing power, data acquisition, and staff expansion as F13 develops models for more intricate design tasks.
Gregory Janik, CEO of F13, and Ingimar Tomasson, a machine learning researcher with a mathematical background from UCL, first collaborated at the edtech company Knownunity while working on product visuals.
“We didn’t want to build another model that’s impressively expressive but quietly inaccurate,” said Gregory Janik. “We create visuals that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also true to the brief, with correct proportions, accurate data, and precise layouts.”
Janik has previously exited two startups, including a drone company acquired by Helsing. The F13 team comprises researchers formerly from Meta and Porsche, as well as designers with experience at Versace, Gucci, and Nike.
“Our first investment came from a casual conversation with an investor when F13 was merely a concept,” Janik added.
Pawel Chudzinski, a partner at Point Nine, expressed enthusiasm about F13’s potential to revolutionize software engineering practices by enabling designers to leverage AI for their work, shifting the current manual approach.
