French Startup Syntetica Raises $30M to Scale Nylon Recycling
A French deeptech startup tackles fashion’s waste problem
A French startup has secured $30 million to revolutionize nylon recycling, aiming to address one of the industry’s most challenging waste issues. Syntetica, a deeptech company, recycles nylon, specifically focusing on two grades that have long perplexed recyclers.

What Syntetica Does
Syntetica’s unique low-temperature chemistry process allows for the simultaneous recycling of Nylon 6 and Nylon 6,6. Unlike traditional recyclers, they can separate these grades mixed in textile waste. The result is high-quality pellets that can be transformed into yarn, matching the quality of virgin nylon.
Why It Matters
The global recycled nylon market currently stands at approximately 2%, with most textile waste ending up in incinerators or landfills. Fluctuating oil prices have also increased the cost of new nylon derived from petroleum. Syntetica’s founder believes that this volatility serves as a "wake-up call to many brands" and argues for the need for cost-competitive, scalable solutions.
Funding and Future Plans
The investment round was led by Ecotechnologies 2 Fund managed by Bpifrance, with participation from Lululemon, MAS Holdings, EQT Ventures, SWEN Capital Partners, Peugeot’s family office, Etam’s family office, Indorama Ventures, and the European Innovation Council. The funds will be used to construct a commercial demonstration plant in partnership with Michelin, expected to produce hundreds of tonnes annually within 18 months.
This funding is part of a broader European push to support startups like Syntetica, aiming to foster local industry and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. It aligns with a recent wave of deep-tech investments in materials science across Europe, from energy AI in London to new deep-tech funds.
