GM’s New UI for Trucks: CarPlay Gets Its Own Window
General Motors (GM) is transforming its infotainment interface on 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks, offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto dedicated windows alongside native apps, instead of using the entire screen. This change comes after GM previously stated it would remove phone mirroring from its vehicles.

GM's new design incorporates some of these controls, though not all as required by the protocol. China has gone even further, mandating 19 physical control functions for safety.

"What we heard was that people were hunting for controls, navigating through too many steps," said Sebastian Bauer, GM’s executive director of human interface, highlighting the need for a more intuitive design.
