Hidden Code in ChatGPT’s Android App Suggests OpenAI is Building a Direct WhatsApp Sticker Export

An APK teardown found references to an “Add to WhatsApp” option in the sharing menu of ChatGPT. Instead of sending AI-generated images as regular pictures, ChatGPT would prepare them in WhatsApp’s sticker format before handing them off to the messaging app.
The workflow would streamline a multi-step process currently required for creating custom WhatsApp stickers from ChatGPT:
- Generate an image.
- Remove the background.
- Save it locally.
- Import into a third-party sticker tool.
This new feature reflects how ChatGPT’s image generation has moved from novelty to daily utility, with OpenAI recently removing usage limits for free users and image generation becoming one of the most popular features. Direct sharing inside WhatsApp, with its over 2 billion users, would remove friction and make ChatGPT harder to replace for many users who already generate images within it.
OpenAI has not announced the feature, but the integration makes strategic sense. Whether it launches is uncertain; however, the development of this functionality is confirmed.
