IQM Lists on Nasdaq: Europe’s First Public Quantum Firm
IQM, the Finnish maker of full-stack quantum computers, started trading on Nasdaq this week, becoming the first European quantum company to list on a major US exchange. It retained its base in Helsinki and its €337 million war chest, but experienced a soft debut with a blunt statement in its prospectus revealing how much about quantum remains unproven.

Europe has just launched its first quantum computing company on a major American stock exchange, and it didn’t leave home to do so. IQM began trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market on July 2 under the ticker "IQMX." The company achieved this milestone through a merger with a US shell company, keeping its pro forma cash pile at €337 million.
A Finnish Company That Stayed Finnish
For years, the standard strategy for ambitious European deep-tech firms has been to reincorporate in Delaware, relocate to the US, and list solely there. IQM did neither. Founded in 2018 as an Aalto University spinout, it maintains two-thirds of its 420 staff in Espoo near Helsinki and has a significant presence in Munich. IQM also listed on Nasdaq Helsinki the day after its New York debut, keeping local state fund Tesi and pension insurers involved. BlackRock contributed before the launch.
A Pioneer with Real Revenue
IQM stands out among loss-making quantum startups. It reported €31 million in revenue in 2025 and an order backlog exceeding €67 million, rare tangible figures within the industry. In contrast, Honeywell-backed Quantinuum filed for a traditional IPO at up to $20 billion despite minimal sales, while US-listed IonQ and Rigetti remain unprofitable.
Chairman Sierk Poetting described the listing as "not a change of direction but… an acceleration." CEO Jan Goetz characterized it as a turning point, stating that "organizations are moving from exploration to implementation," with IQM entering the market "from a position of strength."
The Catch Investors Noticed
Despite this optimism, the market reception was tepid. TechCrunch attributed this to a notable line in IQM’s prospectus: that "large-scale commercial traction of quantum computing technology may never occur." This caveat applies to the whole industry, as quantum machines are currently useful for niche simulations and optimization tasks but have yet to deliver on the transformative "quantum advantage" promised for various fields like drug discovery, finance, and cryptography.
