Paris-based Marble, a developer of open-source software for fraud detection and anti-money laundering (AML) compliance, has raised €6.5 million in its Series A round, with Smartfin as the lead investor. This brings their total funding to €9 million, with ADNEXUS as a new investor, while existing investors Passion Capital, 42Capital, and Hexa have increased their investments.

Marble offers a platform for banks, fintechs, and payment providers to detect fraud and comply with AML and counter-terrorist financing regulations. Users can create, test, and launch detection rules independently, without lengthy IT projects, and the platform can run on customer servers or as a hosted service.

Over 100 institutions in more than 25 countries use Marble in production, with 70% of customers outside France and 70% having switched from other systems. The company aims to achieve annual recurring revenue of over €5 million by 2027.

Marble emphasizes cost savings, arguing that fraud and AML tasks consume 10% to 15% of staff time at banks and fintechs, time better spent growing the business. The new funding will enhance AI capabilities, from rule writing to alert sorting and case investigation.

"Compliance teams shouldn't have to choose between staying compliant and moving fast," said Arnaud Schwartz, CEO and Co-Founder of Marble. "That's exactly what we built Marble to solve. As regulatory expectations rise, we aim to absorb the complexity, not our customers."

Will Orde of Passion Capital, who backed Marble in its seed stage, praised the team's delivery:

"Automation for FRAML has gone from niche to inevitable, reshaping the cost base of every regulated business," said Saumitra Dubey, Partner at Smartfin.
