micro1 Commits $1bn to Acquire Company Data for AI Training
Companies can earn substantial amounts by providing their proprietary data, which can be highly valuable for training artificial intelligence (AI) agents. micro1, a San Francisco-based AI training company, has announced a significant investment in this area.
Micro1's Initiative
micro1 plans to spend $1 billion over the next 12 months acquiring operational data from various companies through its Company Data Partnerships program, backed by Citi and Hercules Capital. This funding will enable them to:
- Build reinforcement learning environments simulating real business operations.
- Train AI models and agents to navigate complex tasks and make decisions.
- Expand their data coverage across diverse industries and workflows.
What Micro1 Acquires
The program seeks the following types of data:
- Standard operating procedures
- Knowledge bases and internal documents
- Customer Relationship Management (CRM) data
- Project histories and quality assurance processes
- Decision-making records and human feedback on AI outputs
Payment is based on data quality, uniqueness, and value, with three tier levels:
- Qualified partnerships earning over $100,000.
- Large datasets or ongoing work earning over $500,000.
- Highly unique, proprietary data earning over $1 million.
Data Ownership and Privacy
Companies retain ownership of their data, and micro1 removes personal information when necessary. They may also synthetically rewrite some datasets to ensure data privacy. Sample reviews are available before the data is used.
The program prioritizes companies with 30 or more employees and established documentation, focusing on US-based companies and those in Western markets, with all data requiring to be in English.
Notable Bids
In September, micro1 competed for Spirit Airlines' customer records, a bid eventually won by Google for $10 million. Elon Musk's SpaceX has also shown interest in acquiring startup data for AI training.
