Microsoft Brings Its Fourth Indian Cloud Region Online in Hyderabad
Microsoft has brought its fourth Indian cloud region online in Hyderabad, declaring general availability of India South Central on August 6th, 2026. The three-availability-zone build is the largest hyperscale region Microsoft operates in India and claims to be the biggest hyperscale cloud footprint of any provider in the country.
Key Highlights:
- Investment: This new region is part of a $17.5 billion commitment made by Microsoft in December 2025, its largest investment in Asia.
- Early Customers: HDFC Bank plans to use it for disaster recovery, and Bajaj Finance, PB Pay, and Adani Digital Lab are also early adopters.
- Sustainability: The data centre uses air-cooled chillers that consume no water, part of Microsoft’s zero-water design announced in 2024. It has also signed power purchase agreements for over 1,000 MW of new renewable projects.
- Future Growth: IDC forecasts India public cloud spending reaching $45.7 billion by 2030, with AI spending growing at roughly twice that rate. Microsoft is quickly converting its pledges into concrete action.
