Nvidia Adds a Record $150 Billion to Its Share Buyback

Nvidia’s board has approved an extra $150 billion for share buybacks, lifting the total remaining authorisation to $235 billion, which the company expects to utilize through fiscal year 2028. Nvidia calls this the largest increase to a share repurchase authorization in history.

"This authorization reflects our confidence in the long-term opportunity ahead," said Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s founder and chief executive.

Huang further explained on CNBC's Squawk Box that Nvidia’s strong cash generation allows it to both invest in AI and return capital to shareholders, stating: "I think we’re going through the largest infrastructure build-out in human history, and we have the benefit of being a very central part of that."

The buyback announcement came on the same day Nvidia launched its agent safety platform, designed to keep AI agents within set boundaries. Nvidia reported second-quarter revenue of $96.2 billion in August, and Huang predicted selling twice as many chips next year.

Previous records include Apple’s $110 billion buyback authorization in 2024. In May, Nvidia authorized another $80 billion of buybacks.
