At over $30 billion, this valuation represents a significant 50% increase from Perplexity’s last reported round, valuing the company among the most highly priced private AI ventures globally. While the size of Nvidia’s proposed stake and other participants remain undisclosed, the talks reflect a deeper relationship between the two companies.
Perplexity, having been an early adopter of Nvidia’s Vera CPU, is already a notable investor in Nvidia silicon. However, this circular financing model has sparked scrutiny, with Nvidia’s own credit default swaps widening in 2026, raising questions about the sustainability of this financing structure.
Founded in 2022, Perplexity has developed a conversational search product and attempted to make it robust enough to justify its high valuation. Its ambitious moves include an unsolicited $34.5 billion offer for Google’s Chrome browser in 2025 and the launch of its own AI browser, Comet.
The competitive landscape has become more intense, with Google integrating conversational answers into its search results and OpenAI pushing ChatGPT further into search, both with significant distribution advantages over Perplexity.
While Nvidia’s involvement is unconfirmed, the speculation highlights the significant interest in and potential for AI search technology.
Note: Reports of AI valuations often precede term sheet signatures, so the outcome of these talks remains to be seen.
