Nvidia Pulls Wall Street into the AI Buildout
Nvidia is pulling Wall Street into the AI buildout. Its shares fell on the news of a potential $500bn funding package for AI infrastructure, backed by six prominent private capital firms.

A group of financial firms, including Apollo Global Management, Blackstone, BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners, Brookfield Asset Management, Goldman Sachs, and KKR, is collaborating with Nvidia on this substantial funding initiative. The Financial Times broke the story, later confirmed by Bloomberg. A deal could be finalized as early as Monday.
However, the market reacted negatively, sending Nvidia shares down as much as 3.2% on Monday afternoon. The concern lies in the uncertainty surrounding the package’s details.
The Uncertain Package
Almost nothing about this proposed package is final. Bloomberg sources could not provide insights into which projects or companies would receive funding, nor the form it would take. Furthermore, questions remain regarding whether the $500bn represents new capital or repackaged existing commitments.
Nvidia has been primarily financing its AI buildout itself this year, securing deals with OpenAI, SK Group, and other entities. Critics argue that such circular financing can inflate sector valuations without genuine demand.
Addressing Criticisms
In response to these concerns, the involvement of six independent balance sheets is intended to spread the risk and provide greater transparency. These private credit and infrastructure funds are already closely tied to the AI industry, with some having previously invested in AI-related ventures.
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has expressed caution, noting parallels to pre-2008 credit structures.
Wall Street’s Existing Involvement
These firms are not strangers to the AI sector. Apollo and Blackstone, for instance, have a history with Google TPUs, while Morgan Stanley has arranged loans secured by Nvidia GPUs for Lambda. BlackRock, Global Infrastructure Partners, Microsoft, and MGX established the AI Infrastructure Partnership in 2024, aiming for substantial equity and debt investments. Nvidia joined this partnership in 2025 as a technical advisor.
