Pinterest hires Amazon’s advertising finance chief as CFO

Pinterest (see details) Hires Amazon’s Advertising Finance Chief as CFO

Pinterest has made James Dibbo its chief financial officer (CFO) effective October 26th, hiring him from Amazon where he was finance chief for global entertainment, advertising, and corporate development. He replaces Julia Brau Donnelly, who announced her departure in August.

Pinterest, a search-and-discovery company whose revenue is primarily driven by advertising, has hired an executive with deep roots in the advertising industry. Dibbo previously held roles at Amazon and P.F. Chang’s.

Key Takeaways:

  • European Growth: Pinterest's European revenue grew 27% year over year in Q1, outpacing its U.S. and Canada growth of 13%.
  • Amazon Connection: Dibbo ran the finance function across Amazon Ads, Prime Video, MGM Studios, Music, Audible, and Twitch at Amazon.
  • Cloud Services: Pinterest is also an Amazon Web Services (AWS) customer, committing $4B for cloud capacity.

"Pinterest's distinctive role at the intersection of visual search, shopping, and advertising has long captivated me." said Dibbo.

In a statement, Cristian Dina, CRO at The Next Web, noted: "What a company hires tells you what it thinks it is. Amazon’s advertising arm took $17.2B in a quarter this year, up 24%, which is more than three times Pinterest’s annual revenue."
