TCS Commits $7.4B to One-Gigawatt AI Campus in Hyderabad

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced that its HyperVault unit and partners have committed 700 billion rupees, approximately $7.4 billion, to an AI data center campus of up to one gigawatt in Hyderabad, India. This project leverages green energy and water-neutral design principles.

Key Points:

  • The 264-acre campus is expected to be among the largest AI infrastructure sites in India.
  • It will provide high-density, liquid-cooled compute infrastructure for frontier AI companies and hyperscalers on a global scale.
  • Europe’s data centers above 500kW are required by law to report annual water consumption to a European database, a regulation that doesn’t apply in India.
  • This commitment follows similar investments from foreign capital into Indian AI infrastructure through local firms.

In the Context:

The scale and scope of this project contrast with Europe’s AI gigafactory plans, which are still in their early stages. While Europe has announced bids for up to seven AI gigafactories worth approximately EUR 30 billion (with about EUR 10 billion in public funding), TCS is immediately investing $7.4 billion into a single campus.
