Tesla Renames Full Self-Driving to Tesla Assisted Driving Across Europe

Tesla has renamed its Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature to Tesla Assisted Driving across its European websites, following regulations and safety concerns raised by German authorities. The change comes days after Germany stated that the previous name was misleading as the system does not truly take over driving tasks.

The US website continues to offer FSD (Supervised) for $99 a month, while the European sites now feature the new name with no other significant changes. This renaming is a translation of the American page, with only text adjustments made.

Despite the name change, the German page still claims that the system is seven times safer and promotes features like Robotaxi and Cybercab, despite independent researchers invalidating this claim in June. The real obstacle to EU approval appears to be speed, as Germany wants the system limited to 10% above the posted speed limit, while other countries have raised concerns about higher speeds permitted by the software.

Several EU countries, including Slovakia, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands, now allow the system, with more expected to follow soon. However, the bloc-wide decision keeps being delayed, with a committee vote originally scheduled for October 6th now pushed to December, and some major countries like France, Germany, Italy, and Spain yet to authorize it.

This is not Tesla's first encounter with such regulations. In 2020, Munich judges barred the company from advertising the "full potential for autonomous driving" due to similar concerns.
