Trump and Abbott Clash Over Data Centers

Greg Abbott, on the other hand, disagrees, asserting that data center companies bear responsibility for the backlash they’re facing. He blames the rapid buildout pace and the lack of community engagement before establishing data centers.
Abbott’s comments come after he previously courted the industry, announcing a $40 billion investment in Texas data centers last November and implementing policies to regulate data center development. He has since ordered audits of all projects seeking grid connections and demanded that data centers cover their full electrical infrastructure costs.
In a recent radio interview with Michael Cohen, Trump defended the data center buildout, reiterating that communities that reject them are making a mistake. However, the claim that data centers don’t strain the grid has been questioned, as some facilities do rely on the grid while others have on-site power plants.
