Volkswagen’s New E-Bike: A Cycling Revolution with Advanced Safety Features

Volkswagen has launched an innovative e-bike equipped with cutting-edge safety technology typically found in cars. The bike, manufactured by n+ under license, offers a range of smart features starting at $3,999 with Q4 2026 delivery.

Key Features:

  • Rearview Camera: A rear-mounted camera provides a live feed to the handlebars, allowing riders to see traffic behind them without turning their head. This feature is usually priced at $699 but is included free for preorder customers.
  • Radar Blind Spot Alerts: Radar technology detects approaching vehicles from behind and alerts the rider when they get too close.
  • Smart Helmet (Optional): This helmet syncs with the bike via Bluetooth, mirroring LED turn signals and brake lights to improve visibility to other road users. It also includes crash detection that automatically sends an alert to emergency contacts.
  • HUD Smart Glasses: Head-up display glasses project navigation and safety warnings into the rider’s line of sight. Developed by engineers with military experience, these glasses cost $499.

Bike Specifications:

  • Motor: Yamaha PW-X3 mid-drive motor (250 watts, 85 nm torque) with pedal assistance up to 25 km/h.
  • Battery: Removable 490Wh battery offering a range of up to 162 km.
  • Models:
    • Sport: $3,999
    • Crossover: $4,349 (with rear cargo tray and range extender option)

Manufacturers and Licensing:

The e-bike is produced by n+, known for its Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1-branded electric bicycles. This is Volkswagen’s third major automotive licensing deal after Mercedes and Ford, marking their first time attaching the VW badge to a two-wheeled vehicle.
