YouTube to Automatically Label AI-Generated Videos
YouTube will now automatically label AI-generated videos, regardless of whether creators disclose them or not. The platform is transitioning from a voluntary disclosure system to one that relies on automated detection.

Prominent AI Labels: YouTube is moving AI labels to more visible positions. For long-form videos, labels will appear directly below the player, and for Shorts, they’ll be an overlay on the video itself. Previously, these labels were only shown for content touching sensitive topics. Now, every AI-labeled video will have a visible marker.

Permanent Labels: YouTube will make AI labels permanent in two cases: when a video is created using YouTube’s own AI tools (like Veo, Gemini Omni, and Dream Screen) or when the C2PA metadata indicates full AI generation.

Automated Detection: The platform will use internal signals and C2PA metadata to identify AI-generated content. Google’s SynthID watermarking tool, already used on over 100 billion AI-generated images and videos, will be supported for invisible detection.
This change marks a significant shift in YouTube’s approach to managing AI-generated content, moving towards more transparent and automated identification.
