Zoom Integrates World’s Deep Face Technology for Human Verification in Meetings

Zoom has partnered with World, Sam Altman’s biometric identity company, to enhance meeting security by verifying participants’ humanity using Deep Face technology. This integration aims to combat deepfake fraud, which cost businesses over $200 million in the first quarter of 2025.
How it Works
World’s Deep Face technology cross-references a participant’s live video feed with their iris-scanned biometric profile. When a match is successful, a “Verified Human” badge appears next to their name. Hosts can enable a Deep Face waiting room to require verification before joining, and participants can request verification during the call.
Addressing Deepfake Threats
The need for such a solution has shifted from theoretical to tangible threat. In 2024, an engineering firm in Hong Kong suffered a $25 million loss due to an AI-generated deepfake impersonating a colleague. Similar incidents occurred in 2025, with global losses from deepfake-enabled fraud exceeding $200 million in Q1 2025 alone.
World’s Deep Face Approach
Deep Face takes a multi-faceted approach:
- Cross-Referencing: It compares a signed image from the user’s initial registration using World’s Orb (a spherical biometric scanner) with a real-time face scan and live video frame during the meeting.
- Local Processing: Verification occurs locally on the participant’s device, ensuring no personal data leaves the phone.
- Reliability: Unlike frame-by-frame detection tools that may become less effective due to rapidly advancing AI, Deep Face verifies identity against a biometric record.
