A seemingly unlikely source, Anhui Korrun—a Chinese suitcase manufacturer—disclosed in a stock-exchange filing that it holds a stake implying DeepSeek’s valuation at approximately $52 billion.

The calculation is based on a narrow but specific investment by a subsidiary of Korrun into a fund managed by Monolith Management. This indirect stake, valued at 0.8265%, places DeepSeek within the reported range.

Korrun’s filing reveals an implied company valuation of roughly $51.8 billion, derived from this single investor’s entry point. While this is not a fresh round announced by DeepSeek, it adds to the growing narrative of the startup’s value.

These investments, required for listed companies in China, reveal data points that can drift as larger transactions occur. However, the consistent upward trend in valuation—from a $45 billion estimate to this recent figure—indicates DeepSeek’s steady growth.

DeepSeek, founded by Liang Wenfeng, initially relied on capital from High-Flyer, its quantitative hedge fund. This year marked its first external funding round, raising approximately $7.4 billion at a post-money valuation near $50 billion, with notable investors like Tencent and CATL (a battery giant).

The Korrun disclosure, completed before June 17 and reported on July 15, aligns with these figures, confirming a valuation close to $50 billion.

DeepSeek is currently exploring a further funding round, reportedly aiming for between $71 billion and $74 billion. This potential raise would significantly increase its valuation before even going public. The initial public offering (IPO) will be a critical milestone, marking the lab’s transition into the public market.
