A political video network hired real actors to read its AI scripts. That was enough to beat YouTube’s detectors.

YouTube Terminates Political Video Network Using AI-Generated Scripts with Real Actors

YouTube has terminated 20 channels in a network that paid gig-economy actors $26 per video to read AI-generated scripts attacking Democratic politicians. This tactic proved successful, generating 45 million views, as only the face was real, defeating every synthetic-media detector platforms have built.

The Discovery and Enforcement

Enforcement came after Semafor and Riddance AI published an investigation revealing the network. YouTube confirmed in a statement to Semafor that it had terminated the 20 channels due to strict policies against spam and deceptive practices.

The Workaround: A Human Face

The operation, while heavily automated, relied on one human element: the person on camera. Scripts, thumbnails, headshots, and websites carried typical generative fingerprints, but having a real face present evaded synthetic media detection.

Market for Cheap Talent

According to Riddance AI's report, convincing direct-to-camera delivery is still challenging for video models, creating a market for hiring affordable actors instead.

Platform Detection and Enforcement

YouTube automatically labels AI-generated videos, whether creators disclose it or not. Having a real person read an AI script avoids these detection mechanisms.

The Network's Origin

The network was traced to Caleb Chan, a University of Chicago graduate who founded Casgains Academy, a finance YouTube channel. He later co-founded Virelox, which facilitates rapid creation of creator accounts for clients.
