Apple Launches $299 HomeView Hub Alongside New Smart Home Range
Apple has launched HomeView, a $299 smart display built around Siri AI, with shipping from November 13 in eight markets. However, the European Union is not one of them, as Siri AI is currently blocked on iOS devices in this region.
HomeView features a 7-inch display on a domed speaker base and recognizes up to six people by face. The device runs Siri AI in English and is currently available in beta in selected markets.
This launch comes despite ongoing disputes between Apple and EU regulators over interoperability and access to user data. Siri AI has been blocked on iPhone and iPad in the EU since June, with no timeline for its reinstatement.
Apple says it is working with the EU to find a solution, but for now, HomeView is limited to select international markets.
Key Features:
- Face Recognition: The device identifies up to six faces, securing access to messages, calendar events, and other data.
- Local Data Storage: Camera data is stored in an isolated part of the A18 chip, ensuring privacy.
- International Release: Initially available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore, and South Africa.
Accompanying Accessories:
Apple has also introduced the Apple Home Collection, a line of smart home devices developed in collaboration with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.
