Apple Overtakes Nvidia as World’s Most Valuable Company
Apple has reclaimed the title of world’s most valuable company, surpassing Nvidia with a market cap of $4.88 trillion.
Nvidia, which held the crown for nearly a year after becoming the first company to surpass $5 trillion in October 2025, saw its stock fall approximately 3.5% to around $4.86 trillion.
The shift reflects a broader focus among investors beyond traditional AI leaders like Nvidia. As Toni Meadows of BRI Wealth Management notes, "Apple was seen as a laggard in the AI race because it wasn’t spending to develop models, but now sentiment has changed." Apple’s recent Siri overhaul and CEO Tim Cook’s upcoming transition of the role to hardware veteran John Ternus have contributed to this shift.
Apple’s success demonstrates that integrating others’ AI models rather than developing its own can be commercially viable. The semiconductor industry, however, has seen a nearly 19% decline from its peak as investors reassess the sustainability of the AI trade. Memory chipmakers like Micron and SK Hynix have emerged as winners this year.
While Nvidia retains dominance in AI infrastructure, memory makers are signing multi-year AI supply deals that solidify their positions alongside Nvidia rather than replacing them. Apple’s position is more fragile; its reliance on raised prices to offset costs from the memory shortage could dampen consumer demand if it continues.
