Beacon Software Acquires Haize Labs to Enhance AI Safety

Beacon Software, a Toronto-based holding company specializing in acquiring software for essential industries, has announced the acquisition of Haize Labs, a startup focused on testing and safeguarding AI for frontier labs. This strategic move aims to bolster Beacon's applied AI research capabilities.

"The Fortune 500 will have no shortage of AI," stated Leonard Tang, co-founder and CEO of Haize Labs, in a official statement confirming the acquisition by Beacon Software on September 17th, 2026. “The harder problem is making AI useful for the businesses that power the rest of the economy.”

Haize Labs offers red teaming, guardrails, evaluation, and observability tools—software designed to stress-test AI systems and monitor their behavior in production environments. Beacon, with its portfolio of 45 software companies serving over 22,000 businesses, aims to deploy Haize's expertise across its diverse range of industries, from campgrounds to construction firms.

Key Aspects of the Acquisition:

  • Integration: Tang and co-founder Steve Li will join Beacon as part of the newly formed Applied AI Research Group. They will lead the development of an AI operating system tailored for Beacon's portfolio companies.
  • Priorities: Beacon outlined four main priorities for the research group: reusable AI infrastructure, translating domain expertise into evaluation systems, continuous testing and observability, and building products to streamline administrative tasks and enhance customer service.
  • Talent Acquisition: Beacon is actively hiring engineers, product managers, and researchers to work alongside the Haize team, fostering a collaborative environment for AI innovation.

Unanswered Questions:

The announcement did not reveal the acquisition terms nor provide details on the fate of Haize's existing enterprise customers. It also leaves open whether Haize's work with frontier labs will continue under Beacon's ownership, given the diverse nature of Beacon's customer base.
