CoreWeave Plans India's First Data Centers with 240MW from AdaniConneX
CoreWeave is set to establish its initial data centers in India, leveraging 240 megawatts of capacity at an Adani ConneX campus in Navi Mumbai. The US AI cloud provider announced this strategic move on Wednesday. The first phase is expected to come online by mid-2028.
Adani ConneX, a 50:50 joint venture between Adani Enterprises and data center operator Edge ConneX, will host CoreWeave as its sole tenant across three 80-megawatt buildings at the Taloja campus. CoreWeave holds the option to expand its presence to an additional 240 megawatts at the same location. The investment is projected to reach multiple billions of dollars over the project's lifespan, according to Bloomberg, though CoreWeave did not provide a specific figure.
Sachin Jain, CoreWeave's Chief Operating Officer, highlighted India's potential:
"India has the talent, developers, and ambition to become a major center of AI innovation."
What CoreWeave Will Implement
CoreWeave intends to deploy Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform for training, inference, reasoning, and AI agent development. The buildings will employ direct liquid cooling for GPU halls, utilizing a chilled water system that does not rely on evaporation.
Expansion in Asia
India marks CoreWeave's second market in Asia. In August, the company revealed its initial data center projects in Indonesia, where Nvidia-backed Zankore secured a $3.1 billion GPU loan.
CoreWeave's power capacity stood at approximately 4.2 gigawatts as of its August 11 earnings call. Mike Intrator, CEO, noted that the company is "largely sold out" of capacity, per Bloomberg.
Adani ConneX is also involved in Google's data center project in India, cleared for 2.51 gigawatts as reported by The Guardian in September.
India's Data Center Landscape
India's data center infrastructure has historically consisted of around 2.2 gigawatts of operational capacity over the past three decades. A July report by Wood Mackenzie forecasts a significant surge, projecting 12 gigawatts by 2030, with AI-specific capacity growing to 6.5 gigawatts.
Neoclouds in the AI Space
CoreWeave, listed on Nasdaq since March 2025, offers GPU computing rentals to AI companies. This specialized segment of cloud providers, known as neoclouds, has garnered attention, including discussions with insurers about chip-backed loans, as reported by The Financial Times in September.
