Elon Musk says SpaceXAI will be renamed SpaceXSI after Trump’s AI order

Elon Musk Announces SpaceXAI Rename to SpaceXSI

Elon Musk announced on Sunday that SpaceX's artificial intelligence unit, SpaceXAI, will be rebranded as SpaceXSI. This change follows US President Donald Trump's executive order directing federal agencies to drop the term "artificial intelligence" and instead use "superintelligence" (SI).

Musk confirmed the rename on X, replying to a user's question: "Yes, we will make that change." He had previously stated on X that there would be no more AI and that SI was a better term, describing SpaceX as a superintelligence company. However, no specific timeline for the change was provided, and the SpaceXAI account on X was still using the old name at the time of this report.

The renaming aligns with Trump's executive order of September 29, which instructs executive branch agencies to refer to AI as SI in official documents and provides 60 days for Trump's science and technology adviser to propose a legal definition of superintelligence.

This shift comes as Musk and five other tech leaders signed the White House Accord on Super Intelligence the same day, outlining a voluntary pledge for companies building frontier models to establish internal controls and outside audits.

If implemented, SpaceXSI will be the unit's third name this year, following the acquisition of xAI in February and the adoption of the SpaceXAI name and logo in July.
