SpaceXAI and Cursor’s Joint AI Model: A Launch Today?
SpaceXAI and Cursor could ship their first jointly developed AI model as soon as today. According to The Information, an internal memo positions this new model against Anthropic’s Opus 4.8 and OpenAI’s GPT-5.5.
Elon Musk’s freshly renamed AI company, SpaceXAI, is set to launch its first collaborative model on Wednesday, per the report. A delay earlier in the week was made to enhance the model’s efficiency. The memo highlights their ambition to create a competitive AI system.
This move comes as part of a $60 billion all-stock deal where SpaceX will acquire Cursor, an AI coding tool. The two companies have been working closely together for months.
Musk previously revealed that SpaceX and Tesla staff had tested the joint model, while Cursor CEO Michael Truell expressed confidence in their capabilities.
The memo does not reveal the name of the upcoming model, but Musk has hinted at a beta version called Grok. Cursor also offers its own coding model, Composer.
This potential launch would mark SpaceXAI’s first major product release under its new name, following the merger and rebranding from xAI to SpaceXAI in May. With significant funding behind it, SpaceXAI aims to compete with industry leaders in the AI space.
