Context

This milestone is significant as Germany, the birthplace of the car and a symbol of European automotive culture, is now witnessing EVs take top spot in new sales, even if by a narrow margin over hybrids. However, with only 4.1% of 61 million registered vehicles being EVs, it will take years for the entire fleet to transition.

Rising memory and component costs are also impacting the affordability of both consumer electronics and EVs.
