Google Launches $180 Fitbit Edge with Enhanced Features

Google has unveiled the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker priced at $179.99, offering several advanced features. It positions itself between the screenless Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5.

Key Highlights:

  • Larger Screen: The Edge boasts the largest and brightest display ever on a Fitbit, featuring 46% more viewing area.
  • Longer Battery Life: With a thin design of 11.5mm, it offers up to a week of battery life.
  • GPS, ECG, and Temperature Sensing: Built-in GPS, ECG for heart rhythm monitoring, and a skin temperature sensor are included.
  • Replaceable Battery: It's Google's first fitness tracker with a replaceable battery.
  • AI Health Coach: Users get three months of Google Health Premium, unlocking an AI health coach. Subsequent coaching requires a paid plan.
  • Health Checks: Later this month, Premium users on compatible devices will gain access to Health Guardian for blood pressure and insulin resistance tracking.
  • Workout Detection: The Edge, along with the Fitbit Air and recent Pixel Watches, can automatically detect over 100 types of workouts.
  • Integrations: Period tracker Flo, Abbott’s Lingo glucose monitor, and Function Health’s lab results will connect in the US from early 2027.

Darius Popa, a technology enthusiast and intern at The Next Web, notes that this launch follows the $100 Fitbit Air, Google's competitor to Whoop. Google has been rapidly iterating, implementing 55 feature updates in recent months, according to Rishi Chandra, Google Health chief.
