Malaysia’s PM Launches AI Clone to Serve Citizens

Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, is taking a bold step into the future by introducing an autonomous AI double, named PMX AI.

The Concept

PMX AI is an advanced avatar trained on Anwar’s speeches, writings, and government record. It can converse in English and Malay, mimicking the prime minister’s voice and mannerisms. The project is a collaboration between Ibrahim’s party, Parti Keadilan Rakyat, and a digital infrastructure firm, Zetrix AI Bhd.

Unique Features

What sets PMX AI apart is its ability to act autonomously. Engineers have designed it to take requests, break them into tasks, and execute them with minimal human intervention. This functionality turns the avatar into a versatile assistant capable of helping citizens with various tasks.

Tasks and Abilities:

  • Renewing Documents: PMX AI can guide citizens through the process of renewing driving licenses and send payment links for confirmation.
  • Career Advice: It acts as a career counselor, offering personalized recommendations based on users’ interests and providing information about training schemes and job placements.
  • Language Proficiency: The avatar supports both English and Malay, accommodating regional dialects and slang.

Launch and Intentions

The launch video portrays PMX AI as a superhero and an astronaut, emphasizing its advanced capabilities. This move is strategically timed ahead of an upcoming national election, scheduled for early 2028. Anwar aims to appeal to younger voters by showcasing his embracing of AI and digital technology.

Global Precedence

While not the first world leader to utilize AI, Malaysia’s approach is unique in granting the avatar significant autonomy. Other leaders, such as Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy, India’s Narendra Modi, and South Korea’s Lee Jae Myung, have also employed AI avatars for various purposes.

Ethical Considerations

The introduction of PMX AI raises important ethical questions regarding the role of artificial intelligence in governance and potential implications for privacy and human interaction with technology. As AI continues to advance, these discussions become increasingly relevant.
