Mark Cuban: Lovable and Replit Can Outlast AI Labs

Mark Cuban believes that tools like Lovable and Replit can thrive in the face of powerful AI labs, not by surpassing them in coding capabilities, but by offering comprehensive business solutions. During a recent talk in Paris, the investor highlighted how these platforms provide more than just code editors by bundling services that large language models alone cannot offer.

At the RAISE Summit in Paris, Cuban argued that while AI giants like Anthropic and OpenAI can add new features, the unique value proposition of tools like Lovable and Replit lies in their ability to support the entire business workflow, from incorporation to payments, which is a significant advantage over raw language models.

Cuban’s perspective is especially relevant given the concern that AI labs could replace these coding tools with their advanced features. However, Lovable CEO Anton Osika counters that Lovable has evolved beyond simply being an AI software engineer; it is now seen as a "partnership" or even an "AI co-founder" for founders, offering them a complete solution for running their businesses within the platform.

This strategic shift has contributed to Lovable‘s rapid growth, reaching a reported $500 million in annual revenue with a relatively small team. The key differentiator is that while code generators compete solely on model quality, a platform like Lovable, with its extensive services, becomes harder for AI labs to replace.

Recent developments have intensified the fear among investors and founders. When Anthropic released its Opus 4.6 model, some developers switched from Cursor and Lovable to Claude Code. This trend highlights the constant pressure vibe-coding startups face from AI giants.

To counter this, some tools are developing their own models to reduce their reliance on external labs. Lovable, however, focuses on building a robust ecosystem around its platform, ensuring that it offers more than just code generation. Cuban’s argument is that by owning the business workflow, Lovable can create a formidable barrier against potential competition from AI labs.

The ultimate question remains: Can this strategy withstand continuous improvements in AI models? The answer will significantly impact European startups and their future in the AI space.
