Meta Launches Pocket in the US, Replacing Gizmo App
Meta (discover more) has rolled out Pocket nationwide, an app that transforms prompts into small interactive posts called gizmos. It is a product of the team behind Gizmo, which Meta hired in March and whose original app was shut down on the same day Pocket launched.

Pocket is now available to everyone in the US, having been tested quietly in Brazil since July. The app allows users to type a prompt and receive a small interactive creation, known as a gizmo, which can be shared and modified.
The app it replaces was called Gizmo, developed by Atma Sciences and founded by former Snapchat engineers. Meta did not acquire the company but hired the team and licensed the technology. Business Insider describes both apps as "pretty much identical."
As previously mentioned, Atma announced they are winding down, with their team joining Meta to work on Pocket. Josh Siegel, who led Gizmo, expressed excitement for Pocket despite the bittersweet shutdown.
Meta’s approach is similar to other recent deals, where they hire a team, license technology, and leave the original company standing until it is no longer needed.
What a gizmo actually is
These interactive creations can respond to various user interactions like taps, swipes, and camera access. Pocket includes comments, likes, and reposts, but no direct messaging. Meta plans to keep Pocket independent from its other apps for now.
Pocket is built on Muse Spark, Meta’s AI model, though developers have been waiting for the Muse Spark API to be released.
