Microsoft Fabric: Now Available in US Government Cloud with General Availability from October
Microsoft has launched its Fabric data platform in Government Community Cloud High on public preview, with general availability slated for October 1st. This platform is designed for agentic AI workloads.
The EU cloud certification scheme, which aims to establish an equivalent accredited tier, has been in draft since December 2020, but lost its sovereignty requirement in 2024 and remains unadopted. While Europe works through this, Microsoft has already introduced Fabric within the US federal cloud’s segregated environment.
The launch highlights a key divergence between the two markets: while Washington has clearly defined its accredited tier, Brussels is still debating whether to create a similar level of security and compliance for European cloud providers, citing concerns over data sovereignty and political risks.
As a result, Europe is taking a different approach, awarding contracts directly for sovereign cloud services to European consortia, allowing non-European technology operated within strict frameworks to meet the required sovereignty levels.
