Nicolas Cage says he refused Amazon’s AI waiver for ‘Spider-Noir’

Nicolas Cage Refuses Amazon’s AI Waiver for ‘Spider-Noir’

Nicolas Cage has revealed that he declined Amazon’s request for an AI waiver for the Prime Video series, Spider-Noir, which was subsequently cancelled after one season. Speaking at the New York Comic Con, Cage expressed his reluctance towards AI, contrasting it with Amazon’s substantial investment in OpenAI.

A Disagrement with AI

Cage stated, "Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI. I am not an AI-friendly actor, so it’s like, connect those dots!" He further added that he would likely not collaborate with the studio again due to this disagreement.

The Cancelled Show

Spider-Noir, Cage’s first regular TV role, received 11 Emmy nominations but was ended after just one season. The series, developed under Amazon’s deal with Sony Pictures Television, garnered 2.6 billion viewing minutes in its first six weeks.

Amazon’s AI Ventures

Amazon’s $50 billion investment in OpenAI, completed by July this year, has led to collaborations like ads in ChatGPT and OpenAI agents operating within Amazon’s cloud.

Future Projects

Cage expressed interest in working with Gen Z filmmakers, specifically mentioning Backrooms director Kane Parsons. He also hinted at the possibility of a season of HBO’s True Detective.
