Nvidia Donates Powerful DGX GB300 Supercomputer to US Military’s Top Science School
The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) now boasts the most advanced machine in the Pentagon’s inventory, thanks to a donation from Nvidia.

Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s founder, recently visited Monterey to present a unique gift to the US Navy—a cutting-edge DGX GB300 AI supercomputer. Instead of selling it, Nvidia chose to donate this state-of-the-art system to NPS.
The Hardware:
- Configuration: A single liquid-cooled rack housing 72 Blackwell Ultra GPUs and 36 Grace CPUs, all interconnected as one memory domain.
- Software: Running on Nvidia’s Mission Control orchestration software.
- Rank: This powerful machine is the top-of-the-line in Nvidia’s DGX line and currently, the most potent supercomputer in the US military.
- Estimated Value: One source suggests a value of approximately $15 million, though neither Nvidia nor NPS confirmed this.
Donation Details:
The donation was made to the Naval Postgraduate School Foundation, bypassing traditional defense procurement processes. DDN, VAST Data, and Vertiv contributed storage, data infrastructure, and cooling solutions for the rack.
Purpose and Use Cases:
- Teaching and Research: NPS plans to utilize the supercomputer for various projects, including weather prediction, ocean modeling, cybersecurity, and disaster response planning.
- Nvidia’s Omniverse Platform: They aim to build maritime digital twins and train their own foundation models, one being referred to as NPS GPT for handling sensitive data.
- Innovation Hub: The school already has an AI research center established, ensuring a suitable environment for this powerful rack.
