OpenAI Hires Meta’s Sandhya Devanathan to Lead Southeast Asia and Australia
OpenAI has hired Sandhya Devanathan from Meta to lead Southeast Asia and Australia starting in October. She will oversee consumer growth, enterprise adoption, and regulatory engagement across markets serving over 600 million people.
Devanathan’s role is part of a broader expansion strategy for OpenAI, which has already established a significant presence in Europe, with operations in Paris, Brussels, London, and Dublin.
The company’s focus in Europe has been on legal and policy infrastructure, reflecting the region’s stringent regulatory environment, rather than on revenue generation, as seen with its rapid expansion in Dublin.
OpenAI’s regional appointments over the past six months include Kiran Mani (Asia-Pacific MD) and Prabhjeet Singh (India lead), highlighting the company’s commitment to these key markets.
Indonesia and the Philippines, two of OpenAI’s top ten global markets by ChatGPT users, are central to this move, underscoring the region’s importance for the company.
