OpenAI Launches ChatGPT for Financial Services with Data Partners

September 11, 2026 – 7:25 am

OpenAI has unveiled a specialized version of ChatGPT tailored for banks and investment firms, integrating licensed market data into its capabilities. Designed to support financial analysts’ tasks, the tool includes functionalities for valuations, leveraged buyout models, buyer screening, earnings analysis, and pitchbooks.

Key Features:

  • Data Integration: The product leverages data from S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Moody’s, Dow Jones Factiva, Preqin, Intapp, Datasite, Box, and Reuters through LSEG.
  • Security and Compliance: OpenAI prioritizes enterprise security with single sign-on, user provisioning, role-based access, encryption at rest and in transit, configurable data retention, and audit log exports.
  • Benchmarks: GPT-6 Astra achieves a 69.9% score on OfficeQA Pro for financial document analysis, representing an improvement over the previous model.

Data Partnerships:

The announcement highlights a comprehensive list of data partners, many of which are services banks already utilize. Securing access to their data within OpenAI’s product required careful negotiations and licensing agreements.

Regulatory Considerations (Europe):

While the announcement lacks specific details on European regulatory compliance, such as EU data residency and the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), these factors become crucial for European banks considering adoption. DORA imposes strict requirements on ICT third-party arrangements within the EU’s financial sector, including record-keeping, contractual terms, audits, and exit strategies.

European supervisory authorities can designate certain technology providers as critical ICT service providers, subjecting them to direct EU oversight. As ChatGPT integrates deeply into valuation, research, and deal workflows, it may eventually attract such attention.

Collaborators:

Developed with Morgan Stanley and Evercore, the tool underscores these institutions’ influence in shaping AI’s application within the financial industry.
