Update, 29 September 2026: Dots are currently unavailable for Pro users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK.
What Can Dots Do?
- Proactive Research: Dots learn user preferences and work towards their goals continuously, even when the user is inactive. They conduct background research to assist users.
- Multi-Tasking: Each dot has its own cloud computer and browser, enabling it to connect to numerous apps and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Communication: Users can message or call their dot through ChatGPT on desktop, web, or mobile, or message it via Slack and Teams. Texting functionality is coming soon.
- Personalization: Over time, OpenAI envisions teams of dots working collaboratively on a user's behalf.
Safeguards and Approvals
- Separated Computers: A dot’s computer remains isolated from the user’s unless they explicitly connect it.
- Secure Login: Dots can sign into supported websites with saved passwords without exposing them.
- Monitoring System: A monitoring system can pause or stop a dot if it detects any safety concerns.
- Custom Rules: Users can set custom rules to control the actions of dots, requiring approval for specific tasks.
Pricing and Availability
- Free with Plans: The first dot is included at no extra cost in Pro and Business Premium plans. Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare users can access a beta with workspace admin approval.
- Beta Access: Conversations with a dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits, but tasks initiated in Codex or ChatGPT Work do.
- Specialist Dots: OpenAI is previewing specialist dots for companies, featuring unique identities and credentials.
