OpenAI (read more here) (discover more) seeks $30bn at $1.4tn valuation as revenue nears $70bn
OpenAI is in early talks to raise at least $30bn at a valuation of around $1.4tn, according to Bloomberg and The Information. This round, intended as a bridge to an IPO, would follow a $122bn raising in March, which valued the company at $852bn.
Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO, has stated that an IPO will not occur this year. He explained that the company is adjusting to its new level of AI capability and the safety requirements that come with it.
Key Points:
- OpenAI's annualized revenue run rate is nearing $70bn, up more than 70% since Q3 began.
- Consumer revenue more than doubled in the third quarter compared to all of 2025.
- Oracle, a major provider of computing capacity to OpenAI, saw its shares rise 5.3% on the news.
"Oracle’s fate is largely tied to the success of OpenAI, which represents around half of its compute backlog," said Gil Luria of D.A. Davidson.
Valuation Context:
A $1.4tn valuation would place OpenAI above Anthropic’s latest private valuation and potentially lead to an IPO in 2027, according to Bloomberg. Anthropic's 2025 losses totaled $42bn, as revealed in its recent prospectus.
