Plaud’s $250 Earbuds Record Conversations and Act on What They Hear
Plaud has announced wireless earbuds priced at $250 that come with 4G connectivity, record conversations, and let an AI assistant act on what was overheard. Pre-orders are open in eight countries, including Germany and France.

- Cellular Microphone: The Plaud One earbuds have a built-in eSIM enabling them to connect to networks in over 80 countries, allowing for conversation recording without the need for a phone.
- AI Assistant: The assistant listens for conversational context and automatically executes tasks based on what was discussed during meetings or other conversations.
- Explorer Edition: Two thousand units will ship in Q4 as an "Explorer Edition," bundled with $200 in credits, while feedback is gathered through Discord.
Legal Implications:
Two of the pre-order markets—Germany and France—have strict laws regarding recording conversations without consent. German law punishes such actions with up to three years in prison, while France sets a ceiling of one year and €45,000, with consent presumed only where a recording is made openly and with everyone’s knowledge.
Competitive Landscape:
Meta is also developing an AI pendant and business subscription for it, aiming for $500M in sales this year. The question isn’t whether these earbuds will sell but what legal consequences the first person wearing them into a room without disclosing their presence will face.
