The First Ferrari Luce Sold for $40 Million, 36 Times Its Estimate
Chassis 0 of the Ferrari Luce went for $40 million at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction, shattering records as the most expensive new car, electric car, and charity car ever sold at public auction.
The initial estimate was a mere $1.1 million—it surpassed this by 36 times, surpassing the previous record held by a one-off Daytona SP3 that sold for $26 million last year.
Ferrari does not profit from the sale; the proceeds go to the Ferrari Foundation for educational programs. Delivery of the vehicle, scheduled for early 2027, is conditional on it being outside the United States, as it must undergo costly homologation.
The car boasts a unique Madraperla Semi-Gloss paint that shifts from green to violet with light, dedicated wheels and brake calipers, and Le Mans metallic leather interior with grey trim instead of black.
Despite initial investor skepticism and even criticism from former Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo, the Luce sold out quietly. This demonstrates that collectors are willing to pay premium prices for electric Ferrari firsts, as evidenced by the $40 million sale price.
